Investigators

Merridee Bujaki (Team Lead) (she/her)

Merridee Bujaki is a Professor of Accounting at Carleton University's Sprott School of Business. She holds a PhD in Management and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. In addition to research on the careers of accountants, Merridee also researches the voluntary disclosure practices of Canadian public corporations.

Darlene Himick (Co-Lead)

Darlene Himick is an Associate Professor in the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa. Her research focuses on pension accounting, responsible investing by pension funds, and the use of experts during standard setting. She is also interested in accounting history and the accounting profession, specifically its interaction with the actuarial profession.

Suzanne Paquette is a Professor in the School of Accounting, Faculty of Business Administration, at the University of Laval. Her areas of interest include the role of taxation in financial planning for retirement, in particular the impact of effective marginal tax rates on the financial health of individuals. She is also interested in the impact of tax incentives on the price of securities, the impact of regulation on the provision of non-audit related tax services, and the economic effects of tax policies.

Trainees

Katarina Lauch: With a background in Women’s and Gender Studies, Katrina’s research brings a feminist perspective to gender dynamics in the workplace and, in particular, women in STEM. Inspired by working in an engineering firm after her undergraduate degree, her research aims to investigate women’s underrepresentation in male-dominated fields, the effects of organizational culture, organizational socialization, and how gender performance and masculinity affect inclusion in these fields.

Hayley Touchburn (she/her) is a 3rd year student at the University of Ottawa pursuing an Honours Bachelor in Economics and Public Policy. Having previously worked on an employee interview project for the Government of New Brunswick and assisted with an internal policy project for the committees of the House of Commons, Hayley has become increasingly passionate about cultivating her qualitative research skills to complement her largely quantitative economics background. Upon graduation, she plans on pursuing a graduate degree focusing on public economics and taxation policy.
